About Jay Larson

Jay was born and raised in Massachusetts by his mother, his Grandmother Alma and her two sisters Gert and Ru. He didn’t watch Golden Girls he lived it. He was also a boy scout, played in the high school marching band, played college baseball, flunked out of that college, got back in, graduated and move to Los Angeles without knowing a soul and only $3200 in his pocket. Since then, his path towards directing was definitely the one less travelled.

Jay is a story teller and started his career in stand up and quickly made a name for himself. Over the last twenty years he’s appeared on late night eight times, performed in arenas, released three stand up specials, acted along-side the likes of Larry David and Will Arnett. Worked with David Lynch, Amy Poehler and Bill Burr. He’s written for Adam McKay, Judd Apatow, and Jeremy Garelick. He’s sold shows to Fox and NBC Universal and been hired to write for TV, Film and commercials. With a strong background in Sports Jay has worked with Fox Sports, NBA2K, Shaquille O’Neal, Aaron Judge, Rob Gronkowski, Tiger Woods and Blake Griffin.

If there is an angle in comedy Jay has seen it. Whether it’s on stage at the comedy store, in a table read for the latest Amy Schumer movie or around a table with other comedians, Jay knows where the comedy is. All of these experiences in comedy ultimately led to his true passion; Directing. Jay got his first opportunity directing a sitcom vehicle based on his stand up and hasn’t looked back. He’s since run the writer’s room and directed all three seasons of the Conor Moore Show, a golf sketch comedy show for Golf Channel. As well as directing sketches for NBC Sports, The UFC and commercials for Callaway Golf and Bridgestone golf. Most recently Jay wrote, directed and produced the comedy short film, “Any Asshole” starring Joel McHale, Kumail Nanjiani, Blake Griffin, Neal Brennan and Johnny Knoxville.

The thing Jay loves the most is being a dad to his two kiddos, they’re his inspiration. Whether it’s vespa rides around the westside of Los Angeles showing them different types of architecture, camping with them in Big Sur, flashlight walks through Joshua Tree, outdoor showers, pausing movies to breakdown camera angles in their favorite movies, setting up a flower stand with them or just lying in a hammock reading with them. For Jay there’s time with his kids, and everything else.
