About Mac Premo

Mac Premo is an American artist, filmmaker, commercial director and all-around stuffmaker. His hands-on approach to filmmaking has created tactile, handmade campaigns for brands including Ford, McDonald’s, Budweiser and Sprint, and earned him 17 New York Emmy Awards for his video and animation work, including best commercial, photography, set design and best PSA.

After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, Mac initiated and took part in public art projects in Belfast, Northern Ireland, then built a practice that moves freely between art and film. He directed U2’s “Ordinary Love” and served as animation director on the Netflix documentary A Trip to Infinity. Most recently, he wrote, directed, animated and edited Make Stuff, a film for The Brooklyn Circus that won four New York Emmy Awards in 2026. He was also the subject of WeTransfer’s film “The Bunt Machine,” and has written and performed one-man plays, including The Luckiest Arab in Belfast.

His art has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the New Museum, MoMA PS1 and the Ringling Museum. Known projects include The Dumpster, a 30-yard dumpster collaged inside with memorabilia collected over 20 years, and The Bucket Board, a skateboard deck made with Sanford Shapes from materials salvaged from dumpsters and construction sites, created for the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour. Most recently, his exhibition Disassembly Line turned 25 years of his own work into raw material for new collage and sculpture.

Mac is a NYFA Fellow. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and their two totally radical daughters.
