Tyler Manson
About Tyler Manson
Australia-born and California-raised, Tyler Manson started making films young, shooting his friends skateboarding and surfing around his hometown of Ojai. His passion for travel, photography and storytelling carried him through college and a film degree.
Tyler honed his skills early in documentary and music videos, directing films for Jack Johnson and Andrew Bird and a series for VICE and The Surfer’s Journal exploring surfing, music and adventure. Equipped at times with only a backpack and a camera, he has traveled to remote corners of the world, capturing cinematic human moments for top global brands and earning numerous Vimeo Staff Picks along the way.
Documentary still drives his style: intimate, visual storytelling grounded in artful realism. He works closely with talent to tell stories that are both truthful and beautiful. His Intel film “The Sartorialist,” which he directed and edited, offers a voyeuristic look at fashion photographer Scott Schuman on the streets of New York and was shortlisted for a Clio. For Hershey’s, “Hello From Home” follows a Team USA Paralympian who receives a care package from a hometown supporter, and it was named a SHOOT Top Spot of the Week. His Verizon series “The Call” captured the drama of NFL Draft day for players and their families, and his film “SHAMA” for Hurley traces the rise of Jamaica’s surf scene through the eyes of Shama Beckford.
Also a creative director, Tyler has developed campaigns and original content strategies for tech start-ups and Fortune 500 brands. His clients include Airbnb, Meta, Google, Instagram, Salesforce, Square, Patagonia, Hershey’s, Converse, Verizon, the NFL, Audi, Chevrolet, GMC, Lincoln, Ford, Jeep, Dodge, Budweiser, Liberty Mutual, Subway, Dunkin’, RVCA, Hurley and Billabong.
Tyler lives in a former ashram in the hills of Ojai with his wife and two sons.
